She also teaches parents how to provide children with proper nutrition which in turn contributes to appropriate development of mind and body in the 1-5 year life cycle. She monitors our pregnant mothers to assure that the baby is getting the appropriate nutrients. Martha works with clients to assure they are getting the most out of this nutritional program. Martha Collins is our registered dietitian. She is eager to assist clients and will work with them to get all of the appropriate documents so that the application process is complete and accurate, thus enabling clients to have access to the many services available through our WIC program. Lynn Moss, our WIC clerk, is able to assist clients with the application process. Kansas has acknowledged that it is a mother’s right to breastfeed in public, see Kansas Statute 65-1,248. This enables her to provide the most complete form of nutrition for the child. Breastfeeding women have the right to privacy and accommodations to pump while at work. Melissa and Karen assist breastfeeding moms that are going back to work by educating the mom and the employer of her right to breastfeed. Both ladies provide a nurturing atmosphere which advocates for the clients they serve. Karen Mann and Melissa Wachendorfer educate clients on good nutrition and safe healthy environments for pregnant women, nursing mothers, and children from age 1-5. We are blessed to have two WIC certified nurses in Sheridan County.

We are hoping to add some fun cooking classes in the spring. Each quarter we change our Nutrition Education to review knew health tips for the WIC population. Referrals for services that can benefit the whole familyīut that’s not all! WIC also offers immunization screening and referral, breastfeeding support, and nutrition and health classes on a variety of topics including meal planning, maintaining a healthy weight, picky eaters, caring for a new baby, shopping on a budget and more.
